The Zagreb scavenger hunt starts in the Botanical Garden and leads past the Croatian National Theatre and through the Oktogon passage to Dolac Market and Zagreb Cathedral. In the Upper Town you pass through the Stone Gate to St Mark’s Church, the Museum of Broken Relationships and the Lotrščak Tower, finishing at the Grič Tunnel.

Zagreb grew from two rival hilltop settlements, the church town of Kaptol and the royal free town of Gradec, which together form today’s Upper Town. St Mark’s Church wears a tiled roof with coats of arms, a painting of the Virgin in the Stone Gate is said to have survived the great fire of 1731, and a cannon is fired from the Lotrščak Tower every day at noon.
