Why explore Sintra with a city game
Sintra’s cultural landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, mixes royal palaces, forested hills and Romantic villas that drew kings and poets; Lord Byron called it a “glorious Eden”. In the historic centre, the Sintra National Palace with its two conical chimneys served Portuguese royalty for centuries, while Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle crown the hills above.
A city game turns sightseeing into a shared challenge. You have to observe to find each answer, so you remember far more than from a guidebook, and the stories and local legends bring every stop to life. There is no tour time to meet: start, pause and finish whenever it suits you.
- Start in the morning before the day-trippers from Lisbon arrive, or in the late afternoon when the centre quietens down.
- Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on the façades.
- Pack a power bank and wear comfortable shoes; the game runs on your phone.
- Treat yourself to travesseiros and queijadas, Sintra’s famous pastries, or catch the bus up to Pena Palace afterwards.
