Why explore Florence with a city game
Florence’s historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site and small enough to cross on foot, yet nearly every corner has a Renaissance story. Brunelleschi’s dome still dominates the skyline, Michelangelo and Galileo are buried in Santa Croce, the Medici worshipped at San Lorenzo, and goldsmiths have traded on the Ponte Vecchio for centuries.
A game makes you look closely at marble façades, coats of arms and statues you would otherwise hurry past, and the stories that follow explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a gelato whenever you like.
- Start early in the morning: the Duomo square and the Ponte Vecchio are much calmer before the day-trippers arrive.
- Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details of façades and statues.
- Bring a charged phone, a power bank, water and comfortable shoes; summer afternoons in Florence are very hot.
- If you want to go inside the Uffizi or climb the Duomo after the game, book those tickets separately and in advance.
