Why explore Glasgow with a city game
Glasgow’s centre is full of grand Victorian architecture. The statue of the Duke of Wellington outside the Gallery of Modern Art is famous for its traffic cone, the City Chambers dominate George Square, and the Merchant City recalls the traders who made the city rich in the 18th century. On Glasgow Green, the terracotta Doulton Fountain, made for the 1888 International Exhibition, stands before the People’s Palace.
A game makes you look closely at statues, carvings and façades you would otherwise miss, and the stories explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for coffee whenever the rain sets in.
- Start in the morning or early afternoon; Buchanan Street and George Square are busiest on Saturdays.
- Bring a rain jacket and comfortable shoes; Glasgow weather changes quickly.
- Start the escape game in daylight, which is short in Scottish winters.
- Finish with a visit inside the People’s Palace or a stroll across Glasgow Green along the River Clyde.
