The route: from Place de la Comédie to Place de la Canourgue
The Montpellier scavenger hunt starts on Place de la Comédie by the Opéra Comédie and leads through the Écusson to Saint-Roch Church and the Rue du Bras de Fer. Through the Arc de Triomphe you reach the Promenade du Peyrou and the Saint-Clément Aqueduct, then the Jardin des Plantes, Saint-Pierre Cathedral and finally Place de la Canourgue.
The 10 stops cover about 2.6 km, roughly 36 minutes of walking. You can start elsewhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Montpellier with a city game
Montpellier’s old centre, the Écusson, is a maze of medieval lanes and elegant 17th- and 18th-century mansions. The Promenade du Peyrou, with its statue of Louis XIV, ends at the water tower fed by the Saint-Clément Aqueduct, the Jardin des Plantes, founded in 1593, is France’s oldest botanical garden, and the medical faculty beside the Cathedral is one of the oldest in the world.
A game makes you look closely at doorways, fountains and details you would otherwise walk past, and the stories explain what you have just seen. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop on a café terrace whenever you like.
- Start in the morning or late afternoon: the southern sun is strong and the Peyrou is lovely at sunset.
- Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on the outside of the buildings.
- Bring a charged phone, a power bank, water and comfortable shoes for the hilly, cobbled Écusson.
- Relax in the Jardin des Plantes, or end with a drink on the shady Place de la Canourgue.
