From the Basilica of Santa Anastasia you walk to Ponte Pietra and the cathedral, then follow the Adige to Ponte della Vittoria, finishing on the Castelvecchio Bridge.

The 10 stops cover about 3.6 km, roughly 45 minutes of walking. You can start anywhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Verona with a city game

Verona’s compact old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site where Roman, medieval and Renaissance layers sit on top of each other. The Arena, a Roman amphitheatre from the 1st century AD, still hosts opera in summer, Ponte Pietra was rebuilt after the Second World War with its original stones, and the Scaliger lords built Castelvecchio and its fortified bridge in the 14th century.

A game makes you look closely at marble, battlements and inscriptions you would otherwise walk past, and the stories that follow explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a glass of Valpolicella whenever you like.

  • Start in the morning: the courtyard of Juliet’s House gets very crowded from late morning on.
  • Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details of façades and monuments.
  • Bring a charged phone, a power bank and comfortable shoes for the old town’s stone paving.
  • Finish with a visit inside the Castelvecchio Museum, ticketed separately, or head back to Piazza delle Erbe for an aperitivo.
