Yes, Bergen is one of the easiest cruise stops for our scavenger hunt. Most ships berth at Skolten or Bontelabo, smaller ones at Festningskaien below Bergenhus Fortress and the largest at Jekteviken or Dokken. From Skolten it is about a 20-25 minute walk along Bryggen to the start at Den Nationale Scene, the National Theatre. The hunt takes about 1.5 hours and ends at Bergenhus Fortress, a few minutes from the main quays, leaving a wide margin.

Price range: 4.99 € through 19.99 €From Skolten and Jekteviken to Den Nationale Scene
- From Skolten, Bontelabo or Festningskaien, walk along the Bryggen waterfront to the Fish Market (Torget). It is about 900 m from Skolten and about 600 m from Festningskaien.
- From the Fish Market, continue through the wide square of Torgalmenningen to Ole Bulls plass. The theatre stands just above it at Engen. From Skolten the whole walk is about 1.7 km, roughly 20-25 minutes.
- If your ship is at Jekteviken or Dokken, follow the signposted pedestrian route via Nøstet; the theatre lies on the way to Torgalmenningen, about 15-20 minutes on foot. A port shuttle there is mainly for passengers with reduced mobility, so ask at the gangway.
- Taxis can take you from the cruise quays to Den Nationale Scene at Engen in about 5-10 minutes.

Tips for Bergen when time is short
- The hunt ends at Bergenhus Fortress, a few minutes' walk from Skolten, Bontelabo and Festningskaien, so the way back to the ship is very short from those quays.
- Bergen limits cruise traffic to four ships and 8,000 passengers a day, but Bryggen and the Fish Market still get busy when several ships are in; mid-morning is the peak.
- Bergen is one of Europe's rainiest cities: take a rain jacket even on a bright morning.
- The theatre building is being modernised, so you may find scaffolding or site fencing at the start.
- Bryggen's old wooden passages have uneven boards and steps; the rest of the route is fairly flat along the harbour.
- Tourist Information is at the Fish Market (Strandkaien 3), right on the route between the start and the finish.
Why a self-guided game works on a port day
- You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
- Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
- You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
- Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.
Bergen cruise stop: questions
Can I walk from the Bergen cruise port to the city centre?
Yes. Skolten and Festningskaien are 600-900 m from the Fish Market, and from Jekteviken the port has built a pedestrian route that most passengers now use to walk into town.
Is there a shuttle bus from Jekteviken in Bergen?
The port encourages passengers at Jekteviken to walk into town on the pedestrian route; a shuttle is mainly offered to passengers with reduced mobility.
How many cruise ships can call in Bergen at once?
Bergen caps cruise traffic at four ship calls and 8,000 passengers per day, which still makes Bryggen busy on full days.
Where does the scavenger hunt start and finish?
It starts at Den Nationale Scene at Engen, by Ole Bulls plass on the southern edge of the centre, and finishes at Bergenhus Fortress, right next to the Festningskaien and Skolten quays.
Do I need to book a time slot?
No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.
What do we need on the day?
A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
