Yes, Cologne is an easy river cruise stop for our game. Most boats moor at landing stages along the Rhine at the edge of the Old Town near the Hohenzollern Bridge, and you walk up to the cathedral, our start, in about 10-20 minutes. On busy days some ships moor farther out and run a shuttle of about 10 minutes. The hunt takes about 2 hours, covers only about 2 km on flat ground and ends at the Chocolate Museum on the riverbank. Verdict: easy.

Price range: 4.99 € through 19.99 €From the Rhine landing stages to Cologne Cathedral
- From the central landing stages, follow the Rhine promenade towards the Hohenzollern Bridge. The cathedral's twin spires are visible from the riverfront, so the direction is easy to keep.
- Walk up to the cathedral square next to the main station (Köln Hbf); depending on your berth this takes about 10-20 minutes. The hunt starts at the cathedral, so open the app as soon as you arrive.
- If your ship is moored outside the centre on a busy day, take the cruise line's shuttle bus into town, about 10 minutes, and check the time of the last return shuttle before you set off.
- Buses, trams and the U-Bahn (KVB) also reach the centre in about 5-10 minutes; get off at Dom/Hbf for the cathedral.

Tips for Cologne when time is short
- The Tourist Information office across the square from the cathedral has public toilets, a useful stop before you start.
- Keep your valuables close around the cathedral and the main station, which are busy with pickpockets.
- The hunt ends at the Chocolate Museum on the Rhine, so you can walk back to your boat along the riverside promenade.
- The whole route is flat and only about 2 km, so it suits slower walkers and leaves time for a coffee on the way.
- If your ship is moored outside the centre, note the last shuttle back to the ship and plan your finish around it.
- The landing stages stretch for around a mile along the Rhine, so ask the crew which one you are at and note a landmark to find your boat again.
Why a self-guided game works on a port day
- You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
- Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
- You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
- Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.
Cologne river cruise stop: questions
Where do river cruise ships dock in Cologne?
Usually at landing stages along the Rhine at the edge of the Old Town near the Hohenzollern Bridge. On busy days some ships moor farther out and run shuttle buses into town, about 10 minutes.
Can I walk from the ship to Cologne Cathedral?
Yes, from the central berths. The cathedral and the main sights are about 10-20 minutes on foot, depending on where your boat is moored.
Are there toilets near the cathedral?
Yes. The Tourist Information office across the square from the cathedral has public toilets, handy before or after the hunt.
Where does the Cologne hunt finish?
At the Chocolate Museum on the riverbank south of the Old Town. From there you can follow the riverside promenade back towards the landing stages.
Do I need to book a time slot?
No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.
What do we need on the day?
A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
Port and transport details checked in November 2026. Docking positions and timetables change, so always check your ship’s all-aboard time and your cruise line’s port information before you set off.
