Corfu on a cruise stop: a self-guided city game from the port

Yes: Corfu is an easy cruise stop for our scavenger hunt. Ships normally berth at the New Port (Neo Limani), north-west of Corfu Town and about 2-3 km from the Old Town. The start, the Kapodistrias statue at the southern end of the Spianada, is about 35-40 minutes on foot along the waterfront or 10-15 minutes by blue city bus or taxi. The hunt takes about 2 hours over 2.1 km and ends at the Old Fortress next door.

From Corfu's New Port to the Kapodistrias statue

  1. Leave the ship at the New Port cruise quays; at some berths an in-port shuttle bus takes you to the cruise terminal. There is no free shuttle into town, though some cruise lines sell their own.
  2. The easiest public option is a blue city bus (Astiko KTEL): line 17 links the port with the Liston and the Spianada, and line 16 runs to Spilia at the edge of the Old Town. The ride takes about 10-15 minutes; buy your ticket before boarding, as it is cheaper than on the bus.
  3. Taxis wait at the port and also need about 10-15 minutes; agree the fare before you get in.
  4. On a cooler day you can walk along the waterfront in about 35-40 minutes, with little shade on the way. At the Spianada, head to its southern end, opposite the Ionian Academy, to find the Kapodistrias statue.

Tips for Corfu when time is short

  • Start and finish are at opposite corners of the Spianada, so your way back to the port is the same as your way in.
  • The waterfront walk from the port has little shade; on hot days take the bus or a taxi instead.
  • The Old Town lanes are narrow and shady, while the Spianada and the Liston are open and sunny, so keep a hat handy.
  • Buy bus tickets before you board: they are cheaper than tickets bought on the bus.
  • The route is compact, only 2.1 km, so even a short port day leaves time for lunch near the Liston.

Why a self-guided game works on a port day

  • You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
  • Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
  • You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
  • Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.

Corfu cruise stop: questions

Can I walk from the cruise port to Corfu Old Town?

Yes. It is about 2-3 km along the waterfront, roughly 35-40 minutes on foot to the Spianada, with little shade on the way.

Is there a free shuttle from the Corfu cruise port?

No, there is no free shuttle into town. Use the blue city buses, a taxi or your cruise line's own shuttle if it sells one.

Which bus goes from the port to Corfu Old Town?

Blue city bus lines 15, 16 and 17 serve the port. Line 17 goes to the Liston and the Spianada, close to the hunt start, and line 16 to Spilia at the edge of the Old Town.

Is the scavenger hunt doable on a Corfu cruise stop?

Yes. It takes about 2 hours over 2.1 km in the compact Old Town and starts and ends on the Spianada, so you can be back at the ship with time to spare.

Do I need tickets for the Old Fortress or the churches?

No entry tickets are needed for the game: the Old Fortress and all other stops are seen from outside or from public spaces.

Do I need to book a time slot?

No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.

What do we need on the day?

A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
