From the cruise port to Vegueta old town

  1. All ocean ships berth at Muelle Santa Catalina and use the new two-storey Las Palmas Cruise Terminal, which can take four ships at once. It sits in the Santa Catalina district, not in the old town, so Vegueta is not a sensible walk.
  2. Quickest: take a taxi from the rank next to the terminal to Vegueta, about 10-15 minutes. For the return there is also a taxi rank at Parque de San Telmo.
  3. By city bus, walk to the Parque Santa Catalina interchange next to the port and take the yellow Guaguas Municipales line 1 (Teatro – Puerto) south to San Telmo, at the edge of Triana and Vegueta. From October 2026 line 1 uses the San Telmo stops while the Teatro station is closed for works.
  4. The hop-on hop-off tourist bus (Guagua Turística) leaves from Muelle Santa Catalina every 20-35 minutes depending on the season and stops in Triana and Vegueta, about 50 minutes and 1 hour into the loop.
  5. Staying near the ship? Parque Santa Catalina is right beside the terminal and Las Canteras beach is about 5-15 minutes on foot.

Tips for Las Palmas when time is short

  • The terminal is in the Santa Catalina district, not in the old town: Vegueta needs a bus or taxi, while Las Canteras beach is a short walk.
  • On busy winter days with up to four ships in, expect queues for taxis. City buses from Santa Catalina are frequent.
  • A Santa Catalina tourist information point operates near the port on cruise days.
  • Check the current bus stop at San Telmo for the return, as stops around the Teatro station changed in October 2026 because of works.
  • Vegueta is flat and compact and Triana's main street is pedestrianised, so once you are there everything is on foot.
  • Load our city guides before you go ashore: they work offline, so you have a tip for each place in Vegueta and Triana even without signal.

Why take our city guides ashore

  • They work offline, so you don’t need mobile data or roaming in port.
  • Six guides in one: where to eat, what to see, what to do with kids, going out, day trips and saving money.
  • A short list of places worth your limited time, with a tip for each one.
  • Buy before you sail and open them on your phone as soon as you step ashore.

At Muelle Santa Catalina, at the new Las Palmas Cruise Terminal, which opened in 2025-2026 and can handle four ships at once.

Can I walk from the Las Palmas cruise terminal to the old town?

Not really. Vegueta is several kilometres south of the port. Take a taxi, about 10-15 minutes, or city bus line 1 from Santa Catalina. Las Canteras beach, however, is a short walk.
