Mykonos on a cruise stop: from the port to Mykonos Town

Yes, Mykonos Town is easy to see on your own. Most ships berth at the New Port in Tourlos, about 3 km north of town; others anchor and tender passengers straight to the Old Port. From Tourlos the SeaBus water taxi crosses to the Old Port in about 10 minutes, and a shuttle bus runs on cruise days. Little Venice, the windmills and Panagia Paraportiani are all on foot from there. Our city guides help you plan the day.

From the cruise port to Mykonos Town

  1. If your ship berths at Tourlos, head for the SeaBus at the New Port. The small passenger boat crosses to the Old Port on the Mykonos Town waterfront in about 10 minutes, leaving about every 30 minutes or as boats fill.
  2. On cruise days a port shuttle bus also runs from the Tourlos terminal to the edge of town in about 10-15 minutes; from there you walk into the pedestrian old town.
  3. Taxis wait at the New Port and take about 5-10 minutes, but there are often too few when several ships are in port. Walking the coast road takes about 30-40 minutes, partly without pavement and with little shade: not a good idea in the heat.
  4. If your ship anchors offshore, the tender lands you directly at the Old Port in town after a ride of about 5-10 minutes.

Tips for Mykonos when time is short

  • SeaBus boats and shuttle buses get crowded when several ships are in port: go ashore early and allow extra time to get back.
  • If your ship is at Tourlos, the SeaBus is usually the easiest way into town and drops you right on the old harbour.
  • Mykonos Town's lanes are a car-free maze. Note a landmark such as the Old Port or the windmills to find your way back, and keep the city guides open offline on your phone.
  • Facilities at the New Port are basic, with toilets and a few kiosks, so there is little reason to linger there.
  • Keep an eye on your belongings in the crowded lanes.

Why take our city guides ashore

  • They work offline, so you don’t need mobile data or roaming in port.
  • Six guides in one: where to eat, what to see, what to do with kids, going out, day trips and saving money.
  • A short list of places worth your limited time, with a tip for each one.
  • Buy before you sail and open them on your phone as soon as you step ashore.

Mykonos cruise stop: questions

Where do cruise ships dock in Mykonos?

Most dock at the New Port in Tourlos, about 3 km from Mykonos Town; others anchor and tender passengers to the Old Port in town. The port and the ship decide, not the passenger.

Can I walk from the cruise port to Mykonos Town?

It takes about 30-40 minutes on foot, partly without pavement, so most passengers take the SeaBus, the shuttle bus or a taxi.

What is the SeaBus?

A small passenger boat linking the New Port at Tourlos with the Old Port in Mykonos Town; the crossing takes about 10 minutes.

How much time do I need in Mykonos Town?

Three to four hours in town is comfortable for the harbour, Little Venice, the windmills and lunch, plus the trip back to the ship.

Do the city guides work without mobile data?

Yes. Once opened on your phone they also work offline, which helps in ports where roaming is expensive.

Can I buy just one guide?

Yes. You can choose a single guide, such as the food guide, or all six guides for the city.
