Via St Michael’s Church you reach the Oude Markt, the Town Hall, the Grote Markt and St Peter’s Church, before finishing at the Fonske statue.
The 10 stops cover about 1.8 km, roughly 25 minutes of walking. You can start anywhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Leuven with a city game
Leuven is a compact university town, home to KU Leuven, founded in 1425, and almost everything worth seeing lies within a short walk. The late-Gothic Town Hall is covered in statues, St Peter’s Church faces it across the Grote Markt, and the Oude Markt is lined with cafés full of students. The Fonske, a student pouring wisdom into his head, sums up the town’s humour.
A game makes you look closely at statues, gables and inscriptions you would otherwise pass by, and the stories that follow explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a coffee or a local beer whenever you like.
- Start in the morning or early afternoon: the Grote Markt and Oude Markt are calmer before the evening crowds arrive.
- Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on statues and façades.
- Bring a charged phone, a power bank and comfortable shoes; several squares and streets are cobbled.
- Finish with a look inside St Peter’s Church or M Leuven, or a drink on the Oude Markt close to the Fonske.
