60-Second Latvia Legend
On top of a building in the Old Town, two bronze cats stand with their backs arched and tails high. Legend says a wealthy merchant, denied membership to the powerful Great Guild across the street, placed the cats on his roof with their tails pointed directly at the Guild’s windows as a permanent insult. After a long legal battle, the cats were finally turned around—but only after the merchant was granted his membership. As you solve our riddles through the streets of Riga, look up; the city’s skyline is full of silent animals and stone faces that still have a lot to say about the people who built them.
