The Almería City Guides answer what a first visit raises: which bars still hand you a free tapa with every drink, how to time the Alcazaba and the civil war shelters around the long lunch break, which Cabo de Gata beach suits your day and whether the western film sets in the desert are worth the drive. Every guide is a short, opinionated list with the reason to go, what to order or see and one practical tip for each place, and it opens in your browser as soon as you pay.

Three places from the guides
Conjunto Monumental de la Alcazaba de Almería
Calle Almanzor, above the old town
The reason Almería is on the map: a 10th-century Moorish fortress whose three walled enclosures climb the hill, from water gardens to the old Muslim quarter and a Christian castle at the top. Wear good shoes for the steps. From the things to do guide.
Casa Puga
Calle Jovellanos 7, old town
The city’s best-known tapas bar, pouring since 1870: order a drink, choose your free tapa from the board and repeat until dinner takes care of itself. From the budget guide.
Playa de Mónsul
South-west of San José, Cabo de Gata
Clear water, a huge dune and a wave of hardened lava that film fans know from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Bring a mask for the rocks along the edge. From the day trips guide.
Plan your days in Almería
Day one: climb to the Alcazaba in the morning, walk down past the old walls to the Plaza de la Constitución, then spend the evening on free tapas along Calle Jovellanos and watch the sun set from Cerro San Cristóbal. Day two: head out to Cabo de Gata for Genoveses or Mónsul, or swap the sea for the western towns of the Tabernas desert, and end with a rooftop drink facing the Alcazaba. On a slow or grey day, book the civil war shelters, add the Museo de Almería and the guitar museum, and finish in the pubs of the Cuatro Calles. Keep Monday for the beach and the Cable Inglés, as most museums close.
