The Amboise City Guides answer the questions every Loire trip raises: which of the famous châteaux deserve a whole day and when to get there before the coaches, where to book dinner in the old town without ending up in a tourist trap, which wine growers pour Chenin and Côt in their own cellars, and which castles will actually keep a seven-year-old interested. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place earns its spot, what to order or look for and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
La Grange Tiphaine
Rue du Clos Chauffour, south edge of Amboise
Coralie and Damien Delecheneau make some of the finest organic wine in Touraine-Amboise and Montlouis, and they pour it free in the cellar where it is made. Expect a quick, well-chosen line-up comparing Chenin with Côt and Cabernet Franc. From the food guide.
Château de Chenonceau
Chenonceaux, 20 min drive south
Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de’ Medici shaped this château that spans the Cher, and its gallery above the water is the view people travel for. Leave time for the kitchens, the gardens and the farm, and come at opening or late in the afternoon. From the things to do guide.
Parc des Mini-Châteaux
Boulevard Saint-Denis Hors, 5 min drive south of the centre
About forty Loire castles rebuilt at 1:25 scale among the flower beds, with little boats, trains and a playground. Come here first and let the children choose which real châteaux they want to visit next. Plan on half a day. From the family guide.
Plan your days in Amboise
Day one: stay in town. Walk across to the Île d’Or for the classic view of the château over the river, visit Château Gaillard and its orange garden, then go underground for a tasting at Caves Ambacia. Have an aperitif at Côt’é Chenin at the foot of the château walls and book dinner at La Planque Amboise. Day two: hire a bike or e-bike at Rouelib on the riverfront, reach Château de Chenonceau for opening time and eat at L’Orangerie in the grounds before the crowds peak. For a rainy or slow day, take the 20-minute train to Blois for the royal château and the Maison de la Magie, or drive to Vouvray for the cellars of the co-operative and a long lunch at Les Gueules Noires.
