See the guide in action

A short look at a real guide: ticking places off, filtering and opening Maps.

The Annecy City Guides tackle what every visitor wonders: where to eat proper Savoyard food without falling for the rue Perrière traps, when the Pont des Amours is actually quiet, which lake villages and gorges make a good day out and where the evening carries on in a town that goes to bed early. Each guide is a short, decided list, and every entry explains why it earns a visit, what to order or look for and one practical tip. The guide opens in your browser the moment you pay.

Three places from the guides

Fromagerie Pierre Gay

Rue Carnot

A cheese shop led by a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, with a glass floor that lets you look down into the ageing cellar. Ask for farmhouse reblochon or Abondance and have it vacuum-packed for the trip home. From the food guide.

Basilique de la Visitation

On the hill above the old town, 15 minutes on foot

A large basilica on the slope above town, with modern stained glass and the tombs of St Francis de Sales and St Jane de Chantal. The climb is steep, and the reward is a free view over the lake and the roofs, with few people around. From the things to do guide.

Gorges du Fier

Lovagny, about 20 minutes by car

A wooden walkway clings to the walls of a narrow limestone gorge for about 1.2 km, high above the rushing river. The visit takes about an hour; in summer, arrive early to beat the queue. From the day trips guide.

After the game, the guides take over

World City Trail’s scavenger hunt, outdoor escape game and audio tour in Annecy guide you through the old town. Once you have finished, the guides show you where to go next: cheese from a proper fromagerie for a picnic on the lake lawn, a glass of Savoie wine on Rue Vaugelas, a bus to Talloires or a walk through the Gorges du Fier.
