The Berchtesgaden City Guides answer the questions every visitor ends up asking: how to get onto a Königssee boat before the crowds, whether the Eagle’s Nest is worth it without an expensive tour, which gorge suits small legs and where to eat smoked char or a cream puff big enough to share. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place earns its spot, how to reach it and one tip you can actually use, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Fischerei St. Bartholomä
St. Bartholomä peninsula, about 35 min by electric boat from Königssee
Char and whitefish go from the smoker behind the hut straight onto your plate, a few steps from the chapel with the red domes. Get a roll for about €6 to €8 or a whole fish with bread and horseradish, and squeeze in at the shared tables. From the food guide.
Röthbachwasserfall
Beyond the Obersee, about 1 hour on foot from Salet landing
Germany’s tallest waterfall drops roughly 470 metres at the head of the valley. Getting there is half the pleasure: a flat, quiet path from the Salet landing past the green Obersee and the Fischunkelalm hut. From the things to do guide.
Aschauer Weiher
Bischofswiesen, 10 min by car from Berchtesgaden
A swimming pond kept clean by plants rather than chlorine, with mountains all around, a slide, a small diving board, floating mats and a fenced shallow corner for toddlers. Adults pay about €4.50 with the guest card, children €3. From the family guide.
Plan your days in Berchtesgaden
Day one: take an early bus 841 to one of the first boats on the Königssee, walk from Salet along the Obersee to the Röthbach waterfall, and stop for smoked fish at St. Bartholomä on the way back. Day two: ride up to the Eagle’s Nest for the view, give the Dokumentation Obersalzberg an hour or two for the history behind it, and finish with a cream puff or Kaiserschmarrn on an Obersalzberg terrace. For a rainy or slow day, slide into the salt mine, visit the palace and the Haus der Berge, then warm up in the Watzmann Therme; if the sun returns, hop on bus 846 to the Wimbachklamm, the Zauberwald and the Hintersee.
