The Cannes City Guides answer what visitors actually want to know: where the town eats away from the seafront terraces, which views over the bay cost nothing, how to fit the Lérins islands into a day and where to drink when the hotel bars are too much. Each guide is a short, opinionated list with the reason to go, what to order or do and one practical tip for every place, and it opens in your browser the moment you pay.

The old town hill, the red-carpet steps, small museums and villas, free viewpoints over the bay and the ferry to the Lérins islands.

Playgrounds and a wooded hill park, a boat to the islands and an easy sandy beach, eight indoor plans for wet days and food children will actually eat.
Nightlife guide
24 places
Cocktail bars in the back streets, wine bars and cellars, pubs with sport and live nights, a rooftop, the casino and clubs, and food after midnight.

Public beaches and the Lérins islands, Antibes and the coast by train, Nice, Villefranche, Èze, Monaco and Menton, and Grasse with the hill towns.

Three places from the guides
Astoux et Brun
27 Rue Félix Faure
A seafood brasserie with its own oyster counter on the pavement, running for decades. Order a dozen on ice or a platter, or keep it cheap with the fish soup and rouille. Expect a queue at peak times. From the food guide.
Belvedere
Boulevard Alexandre Lacour, Californie hill
A steep hillside lookout east of the centre that takes in the whole bay and the Lérins islands beyond. Allow about half an hour on foot from the Croisette; the view is free. From the things to do guide.
Île Sainte-Marguerite
15 minutes by ferry from the Vieux Port
A short crossing to pine-shaded paths, small coves and the fort where the Man in the Iron Mask was held. Children love it, and in winter you have the island almost to yourself. From the family guide.
Plan your days in Cannes
Day one: climb Le Suquet in the morning for the view from the church square, browse the Forville market, lunch on Rue Meynadier, then the Croisette and the Palais steps in the afternoon and a back-street cocktail bar at night. Day two: an early ferry to Île Sainte-Marguerite or the abbey on Saint-Honorat, or the train to Antibes for the old town and the Picasso museum. For a rainy day: the Musée Bonnard in Le Cannet, a film in the original language at Les Arcades and a warm pool or indoor play centre for the children.
