The Cefalù City Guides answer what nearly every visitor here ends up asking: where to try pasta a taianu and swordfish rolls without paying cathedral-square prices, when to climb La Rocca before the heat builds, which beach is gentle enough for toddlers and how to reach Palermo, Monreale or the Madonie villages for a day. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place earns its spot, what to order or look for and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser the moment you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Le Chat Noir
Via XXV Novembre 17, old town
One family has run this kitchen for three generations, and the menu explains every Sicilian dish on it. Go for the swordfish involtini, rolled with breadcrumbs and pine nuts and served with orange salad, or the fried aubergine parmigiana under ricotta salata. From the food guide.
Porta Pescara (Porta Marina)
Via Vittorio Emanuele, old fishing port
Cefalù’s last medieval sea gate opens straight onto the tiny old harbour and a sliver of beach. Step onto the sand and turn around for the postcard view of houses rising out of the water. From the things to do guide.
Cattedrale di Monreale
Monreale, train to Palermo then bus 389 about 30 min
Twelfth-century gold mosaics cover more than 6,000 square metres of wall, with a vast Christ Pantocrator watching from the apse. If you see only one sight in western Sicily, make it this one. From the beaches and day trips guide.
Plan your days in Cefalù
Day one: be at the La Rocca gate when it opens at 8:00 and climb to the Temple of Diana, see the cathedral mosaics before the long lunch closing, then spend the afternoon on the town beach and watch the sun set from the Bastione di Capo Marchiafava. Day two: take the train to Palermo for the cathedral and a street-food lunch at Ballarò, then ride the bus up to Monreale’s gold mosaics. For a rainy or slow day, drive up to the castle at Castelbuono and the observatory at Isnello, or stay in town for the Museo Mandralisca and a long trattoria dinner on Via XXV Novembre.
