See the guide in action

A short look at a real guide: ticking places off, filtering and opening Maps.

The Gozo City Guides answer what every visitor to the island ends up asking: where to find a proper ftira and fish that was still on a boat that morning, how to see Ġgantija and the Citadel before the day-trippers from Malta arrive, which bays are calm enough for small children and where to watch the sun go down from the cliffs without a crowd. Each guide is a short, honest list that says why a place deserves your time, what to order or look for and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser the moment you have paid.

Three places from the guides

Ta’ Ċenċ Il Kantra

Mġarr ix-Xini bay, below Sannat

Tables sit on the rocks where the narrow Mġarr ix-Xini inlet meets the open sea, and a flight of steps leads straight into the water. Swim first, then settle in for grilled octopus and a spread of Maltese starters. From the food guide.

Rotunda St. John Baptist Church

Church square, Xewkija

The people of Xewkija built this church with their own hands around the old one, starting in the 1950s, and its dome is among the largest in Europe. Ride the lift to the roof for a view over the whole south of Gozo. From the things to do guide.

Natural Science Museum

Inside the Citadel, Victoria

A gloriously old-fashioned room of butterflies, beetles, shells, minerals and stuffed birds, officially named the Gozo Nature Museum. By the entrance, find the Maltese flag that flew to the moon on Apollo 11 and a tiny fragment of moon rock. From the family guide.

Plan your days on Gozo

Day one: be at Ġgantija and Ta’ Kola Windmill in Xagħra early, eat rabbit or fried ġbejniet on the village square, spend the afternoon on the red sand at Ramla and end with a coffee on It-Tokk below the Citadel. Day two: head west to the Dwejra Inland Sea and the Blue Hole, stop at Ta’ Pinu on the way back, and walk the Ta’ Ċenċ cliffs at sunset before a fish dinner in Xlendi or Marsalforn. For a slow or rainy day, pair the Citadel museums with Xerri’s Grotto and a wine tasting at Ta Mena Estate, or take the fast ferry for a day in Valletta.
