The Lagos City Guides answer what almost every visitor ends up asking: where to eat grilled fish without paying tout-street prices, how to get to Ponta da Piedade before the crowds, which cove beaches still have sand at high tide and where the old-town bars keep going after midnight. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place earns its spot, what to order or see and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser the moment you have paid.

Three places from the guides
O Escondidinho
Rua do Cemitério, north of the old town
A small, no-frills grill run by its owner, well away from the tourist streets. Order the sardine lunch: fish keeps arriving from the grill a few at a time, with bread and salad, until you wave it away. From the food guide.
Ponta da Piedade
3 km south of the old town, by the lighthouse
Arches, sea stacks and grottoes of golden rock rising from green water: the view most people travel to Lagos for. The clifftop platforms cost nothing, and at the bottom of the long stairway local fishermen take small boats into the caves. From the things to do guide.
Salema Beach
Salema village, about 35 min on the Sagres bus
A fishing village beach with boats drawn up on the sand, a short seafront and rock pools when the tide is out. Look for the dinosaur footprints in the rocks near the western steps. From the beaches and day trips guide.
Plan your days in Lagos
Day one: start on Praça Infante D. Henrique, follow the town walls to the market, then take the cliff path south to Ponta da Piedade and the wooden stairs down to Praia do Camilo. Have a sunset drink by the marina and share a cataplana in the old town. Day two: paddle into the grottoes on a morning kayak tour, swim at Praia Dona Ana, then take the bus west to Sagres for the fortress and the sunset at Cape St Vincent. For a rainy or slow day, combine the science centre, the town museum with its gilded chapel and the slave market museum with a long lunch at Mullen’s and a wine tasting in the old town.
