The Montreux City Guides answer the questions that come up on almost every trip to this stretch of Lake Geneva: where to eat a proper fondue without paying quay-terrace prices, how to reach Chillon before the coaches, which Lavaux village to walk down to for a glass of Chasselas, where children can paddle in the lake and when the cogwheel train to the summit is worth the ticket. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place deserves your time, what to order or look at and one useful tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Mazot
Rue du Conseil, Vevey old town
A small bistro panelled in wood, steps from the market square and full of Vevey regulars. People come for horse fillet or tartare with the house Mazot sauce and thin chips, and for fondue once the weather cools. From the food guide.
Funiculaire Territet-Glion
Territet, 10 min east of the centre by bus 201
Running since 1883, it is one of the oldest funiculars in Switzerland. Five minutes and 300 metres later you step out in Glion, where the terraces of the old grand hotels look straight down on the lake and Chillon. From the things to do guide.
Pierrier – Montreux Plage
Clarens, 5 min walk from Clarens station
The family beach of Montreux, with sand on one side, pebbles on the other, a wide lawn, volleyball courts and barbecue spots. The water gets deep slowly, entry is free and a snack bar takes care of lunch. From the family guide.
Plan your days in Montreux
Day one: take a paddle steamer from the Montreux pier to Chillon, stroll back along the lakeside promenade, look into the Queen studio at the casino and finish with fondue in town. Day two: ride the train six minutes to Vevey for the Saturday or Tuesday market, Chaplin’s World and the fork in the lake, then continue to Rivaz for a tasting at Lavaux Vinorama and walk the vineyard path to a village inn for dinner. For a rainy or slow day, mix the Musée Jenisch, the camera museum on the Grande Place and the games museum in La Tour-de-Peilz with a swim in the heated pool at Clarens, and save the funicular up to Glion for the first clear hour.
