The Noto City Guides deal with the questions every visit here raises: which granita to order for breakfast and where arancini cost half what they do on the Corso, which rooftops and bell towers repay the climb, where to drink local Nero d’Avola after the evening stroll and how to reach Vendicari, Modica or Siracusa without losing half a day. Each guide is a short, honest list that says why a place earns its spot, what to order or look at and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser the moment you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Jonica Pesce Puglisi – Trattoria di Pesce e Pescheria
Piazza Sgroi 19, lower town
Half fish counter, half dining room, run by one family for four generations. Whatever lies on the ice in the morning comes back as raw red prawns, black squid-ink linguine or a plainly grilled fish. From the food guide.
Chiesa di Santa Chiara
Corso Vittorio Emanuele, next to Palazzo Ducezio
Look round the white oval interior first, then pay a couple of euros to go up to the roof. From the terrace you face the cathedral head-on, with farmland and a line of sea behind it. From the things to do guide.
Antica Dolceria Bonajuto
Corso Umberto I, Modica
Sicily’s oldest chocolate maker, working since 1880, grinds its cocoa cold so the bars stay grainy. The tasting, about €10, includes ’mpanatigghi, little pastries hiding chocolate and minced beef. From the beaches and day trips guide.
Plan your days in Noto
Day one: see the cathedral and Palazzo Ducezio in the morning while the churches are open, grab arancini for lunch, climb to the roof of Santa Chiara in the late afternoon light and end with aperitivo and dinner in the streets above the Corso. Day two: drive south to the Vendicari reserve for the lagoons and the beach, taste tuna in Marzamemi and stay on for a fish supper around the old square. For a rainy or slow day, take the train to Siracusa for the Ortigia market and the cathedral, or stay in town for Palazzo Castelluccio and a long glass of Moscato di Noto in a wine bar.
