The Piran City Guides answer what every visit to this small Venetian harbour town raises: how to order grilled fish sold by weight without a shock on the bill, where to climb for the view over the red roofs, which rocks and coves you can swim from for free and how to reach the Karst caves, Trieste or Ljubljana without a car. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place earns its spot, what to order or look at and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Kavarna Piran
Tartinijev trg 10, Tartini Square
Come here for š’torta, the town’s own cake, made with local olive oil and a pinch of salt from the nearby pans; plenty of visitors rate it above the cream cake of Bled. Sit on the terrace and the whole square is in view. From the food guide.
Benecanka Casa Veneziana Piran
Tartini Square, corner of Ulica IX. korpusa
A Gothic palazzo from the 15th century and the oldest building on the square. Look up for the stone lion and the words “Lassa pur dir”, “let them talk”, said to be a merchant’s answer to the gossip about his lover in Piran. From the things to do guide.
Skocjan Caves
Matavun near Divača, bus to Koper, then train to Divača
A river roars along the floor of an underground canyon more than 100 m deep, and the path crosses it on a bridge high above. It feels far wilder than Postojna. The guided tour lasts about 1.5 hours, with tickets around €24 to €30 depending on the season. From the beaches and day trips guide.
Plan your days in Piran
Day one: start on Tartini Square with the Venetian House, climb the town walls for the classic view over the roofs and the bell tower, give the Maritime Museum on the harbour an hour and finish at the lighthouse on the point with a swim and the sunset, then grilled fish for dinner (ask for the weight and price first). Day two: follow the coast path to Fiesa and on to the Strunjan cliffs and Moon Bay, or ride bus 1 towards Lucija for the Sečovlje salt pans and the Forma Viva sculptures above them. For a rainy or slow day, combine Casa Tartini, Mediadom Pyrhani and the aquarium with š’torta at Kavarna Piran, or head underground at the Škocjan Caves; bear in mind that most museums close on Monday.
