The Xi’an City Guides answer what every visitor wonders: where to eat paomo and biang biang noodles without paying tourist prices, how to reach the Terracotta Army without shopping stops, which museums are free with a booking and where the evening goes once the wall lights up. Each guide is a short, opinionated list with the reason to go, the area and one practical tip for every place, and it opens in your browser the moment you pay.

Three places from the guides
Lao Sunjia
Dongguan Zheng Jie, east of the Bell Tower
A paomo house running since 1898 and still serving the dish the old way. You break the flatbread into small pieces yourself, then it returns in lamb or beef broth; the ritual takes about a quarter of an hour. A small halal food museum sits on the fourth floor. From the food guide.
South Gate
Yongning Gate, south side of the old city
The grand way onto the Ming wall, whose full circuit runs 13.7 km. Hire a bike on top and ride past rooftops, the moat and the watchtowers. From the things to do guide.
Huashan Scenic Area
Huayin, about 40 minutes by high-speed train
One of China’s five sacred mountains, all sheer granite peaks and the famous plank walk. A cable car lifts you to the North or West peak area; in winter, ice makes the steps risky. Give it a whole day. From the day trips guide.
Plan your days in Xi’an
Day one: walk or cycle the Ming wall from the South Gate, have paomo for lunch in the Muslim Quarter and spend the evening on the lit-up streets around the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. Day two: leave early for the Terracotta Army in Lintong, then come back for noodles and a craft beer near the wall. For a rainy or slow day, pick the free Shaanxi History Museum, the Forest of Steles and a long lunch from the food guide.
