Yes, you can play our Stockholm scavenger hunt on a normal cruise call if you head straight to the start. Most large ships berth at Frihamnen, about 3 km from the centre, or at Stadsgården on the Södermalm waterfront. From Frihamnen a bus or the cruise shuttle gets you to Stockholm City Hall (Stadshuset) in about 20–30 minutes; from Stadsgården it is a 35–40 minute walk through Gamla stan. The hunt takes about 3 hours, so it fits with a safe margin.

Price range: 4.99 € through 19.99 €From Frihamnen or Stadsgården to Stockholm City Hall
- From Frihamnen, take the cruise-line shuttle: it usually drops near the Opera House, opposite the Royal Palace, after about 20 minutes. From there, walk about 15 minutes through Gamla stan or along the water to City Hall.
- Also from Frihamnen, city buses run towards the centre roughly every 10 minutes and take about 20–30 minutes plus a short walk. Public transport is cashless, so pay by card at a machine or in the SL app. A taxi to City Hall takes about 10–15 minutes.
- From Stadsgården, follow the painted line along the flat path to Slussen, walk through Gamla stan and cross via Riddarholmen to City Hall: about 35–40 minutes in all. From Skeppsbron, right by the Royal Palace, it is about 15 minutes.
- If your ship calls at Nynäshamn, about 60 km south, take the commuter train to Stockholm (just over 1 hour, about two trains an hour). City Hall is a short walk from Stockholm Central.
A Stockholm port day, hour by hour
- 0:00Off the ship at Frihamnen. Use the terminal toilets, then board the shuttle or a city bus.
- 0:35At Stockholm City Hall on the tip of Kungsholmen, facing Gamla stan across the water. Open the app and start the hunt.
- 1:30Cross to Riddarholmen for Riddarholmskyrkan, then into Gamla stan for the Nobel Museum and the Royal Palace (Kungliga slottet).
- 3:35Last stops at Gustav Adolfs torg, Sankt Jacobs kyrka and the Nationalmuseum. Finish the hunt and head for the shuttle or bus back.
- 4:15Back at the ship with at least 1 hour to spare before all-aboard time, enough for a queue at the return shuttle.
Tips for Stockholm when time is short
- From Frihamnen, go straight to City Hall rather than stopping in Gamla stan first: the hunt takes you through the old town anyway.
- Return shuttles from the Opera area can have long queues, so leave extra time before all-aboard time.
- From Stadsgården, take the flat path to Slussen marked with a painted line; the other path up to the bus stop is steep.
- Stockholm's public transport is cashless: buy tickets by card at machines or with the SL app.
- The cruise terminals at Frihamnen 638 and Stadsgården 165/167 have toilets, useful before you set off.
Why a self-guided game works on a port day
- You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
- Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
- You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
- Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.
Stockholm cruise stop: questions
Can I walk from the Stockholm cruise port to the old town?
From Stadsgården, yes: Gamla stan is about 10–20 minutes on foot, depending on the berth. From Frihamnen, about 3 km out, a bus, shuttle or taxi is the better choice.
How do I get from Frihamnen cruise terminal to the city centre?
By city bus, cruise-line shuttle or taxi. Buses run roughly every 10 minutes and take about 20–30 minutes; a taxi to City Hall takes about 10–15 minutes.
Do some cruise ships stop at Nynäshamn instead of Stockholm?
Yes. Nynäshamn is about 60 km south of Stockholm, and commuter trains to the city take just over an hour each way.
Is there enough time for the hunt on a Stockholm cruise stop?
On a normal call, yes: the hunt takes about 3 hours and the start is 20–30 minutes from Frihamnen. From Nynäshamn it is only realistic on a long port day.
Do I need to book a time slot?
No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.
What do we need on the day?
A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
Port and transport details checked in November 2026. Docking positions and timetables change, so always check your ship’s all-aboard time and your cruise line’s port information before you set off.
