Yes, Trieste is one of the easiest stops for our game. Most ships berth alongside at the Stazione Marittima on the Molo dei Bersaglieri, right on the waterfront and about half a kilometre from Piazza Unità d'Italia. From there it is about 10-15 minutes on foot to Ponte Rosso on the Canal Grande, where the scavenger hunt starts. The hunt takes about 2 hours and ends at San Giusto Cathedral on the hill, a downhill walk from the port. Easy on a normal port day.

Price range: 4.99 € through 19.99 €From the Stazione Marittima to Ponte Rosso
- Check your cruise documents for the berth. Most ships use the Stazione Marittima on the Molo dei Bersaglieri; some of the largest ships in high season use Berth 57 in the commercial port instead.
- From the Stazione Marittima, walk along the waterfront (the Rive) past Piazza Unità d'Italia, then turn inland along the Canal Grande to the Ponte Rosso bridge. It takes about 10-15 minutes on flat ground.
- From Berth 57 the walk into town is not pleasant: take a taxi or your cruise line's transfer and ask for Ponte Rosso or the Canal Grande, about 10-15 minutes.
- At the bridge, open the World City Trail app, enter your booking reference and start whenever you are ready.

Tips for Trieste when time is short
- The climb to San Giusto hill is the steepest part of the route; the way back to the ship afterwards is all downhill.
- Bus 24 runs up to San Giusto from the centre in a few minutes if you would rather not climb.
- The Bora, a strong and cold wind, can arrive suddenly, so take a windproof layer even on a sunny day.
- The cruise terminal has tourist information and restrooms, handy before you set off.
- On days with several ships in port, taxis are in high demand: allow extra time if you need one for the way back.
- Piazza Unità d'Italia, the large square open to the sea, is only about half a kilometre from the terminal, so it is easy to come back for photos or a coffee before you reboard.
Why a self-guided game works on a port day
- You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
- Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
- You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
- Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.
Trieste cruise stop: questions
Where do cruise ships dock in Trieste?
Most ships berth at the Stazione Marittima on the Molo dei Bersaglieri, on the waterfront about half a kilometre from Piazza Unità d'Italia. Some of the largest ships in high season use Berth 57 in the commercial port.
Do ships tender in Trieste?
No, ships berth alongside, so you walk straight off.
How do I get up to San Giusto Castle and Cathedral?
On foot through the old town, uphill, as part of the hunt, or by bus 24 from the centre, which takes a few minutes.
Is Trieste the cruise port for Venice?
Some lines market it that way, but Venice is about 150 km away, roughly 2 hours by road. Trieste itself is very walkable from the ship and fills a port day well.
Do I need to book a time slot?
No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.
What do we need on the day?
A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
Port and transport details checked in November 2026. Docking positions and timetables change, so always check your ship’s all-aboard time and your cruise line’s port information before you set off.
