Yes, Würzburg is one of the easiest river cruise stops for our game. Most boats moor at Ludwigkai on the Old Town bank, about 10 minutes' walk along the Main from the Old Main Bridge; some use the Alter Hafen, a short walk from our start at the Juliusspital. You walk there, no bus needed. The hunt takes about 2 hours over about 3 km of flat streets and ends at Residenzplatz, a short walk from the river. Verdict: easy.

Price range: 4.99 € through 19.99 €From the Ludwigkai landing stage to the Juliusspital
- From the Ludwigkai berths, just south of the Ludwigsbrücke, walk north along the Main promenade. After about 10 minutes you reach the Old Main Bridge with its statues of saints.
- Carry on along the river past the Old Crane, then turn inland to the Juliusspital on Juliuspromenade, on the northern side of the Old Town. This is the first stop of the hunt: open the app and start.
- If your boat uses the Alter Hafen, north of the Congress Centrum, the Juliusspital is just a short walk south from the gangway.
- Taxis take about 5-10 minutes for anyone who cannot walk far. They are also the sensible choice if your boat is at the Flusshafen berths, well outside the centre.

Tips for Würzburg when time is short
- The Old Town is compact and flat, so you can play the whole game on foot without buses or trams, and there are no real hills along the route.
- Check with the crew which berth you are at: Ludwigkai and the Alter Hafen are walkable, the Flusshafen berths further downstream are not.
- Berth L1 at Ludwigkai has a bus stop right by the ship, which helps anyone in your group who would rather not walk back.
- The hunt ends at the Residenz, a UNESCO World Heritage site, so add a visit there if your all-aboard time allows it.
- Shops close on Sundays and many museums on Mondays, so check the day of your call before planning extras.
Why a self-guided game works on a port day
- You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
- Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
- You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
- Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.
Würzburg river cruise stop: questions
Where do river cruise ships dock in Würzburg?
Mostly at Ludwigkai on the east (Old Town) bank, just south of the Ludwigsbrücke. A smaller number use the Alter Hafen north of the Congress Centrum, also on the Old Town side.
Is the Old Town walkable from the ship?
Yes. From Ludwigkai it is about a 10-minute walk along the river to the Old Main Bridge, and the rest of the Old Town is close by.
Do I need a bus to reach the start of the game?
No. The Juliusspital is in the Old Town and you can walk there from both main berth areas; a taxi takes about 5-10 minutes if walking is hard.
How much walking is the Würzburg hunt?
About 35 minutes of walking over about 3 km on flat streets, spread over roughly 2 hours with puzzles and stories at each stop.
Do I need to book a time slot?
No. You book online, receive your booking reference by email straight away and start whenever you are ashore. The ticket has no time limit, so it still works if your ship arrives late or your plans change.
What do we need on the day?
A charged smartphone with mobile data, the World City Trail app from the App Store or Google Play, and your booking reference. A power bank helps on a long port day.
Port and transport details checked in November 2026. Docking positions and timetables change, so always check your ship’s all-aboard time and your cruise line’s port information before you set off.
