The route: from the Schlachte to the Schnoor

The Bremen scavenger hunt starts on the Schlachte promenade by the Weser and passes the Martini pier before entering the Böttcherstraße. On the Market Square you meet the Town Musicians, the Town Hall and St Peter’s Cathedral, then continue through the Wallanlagen rampart park to the Kunsthalle and finish in the Schnoor, Bremen’s oldest quarter.

The 10 stops cover about 2.5 km, roughly 34 minutes of walking. You can start anywhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Bremen with a city game

Bremen’s old town is compact and full of Hanseatic history. The Town Hall and the Roland statue on the Market Square are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the brick Böttcherstraße was built in the 1920s and 30s by coffee merchant Ludwig Roselius, and the narrow lanes of the Schnoor preserve tiny houses from past centuries.

A game makes you look closely at reliefs, statues and gables you would otherwise pass by, and the stories that follow explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for coffee and cake in the Schnoor whenever you like.

  • Start in the morning or late afternoon: the Market Square and the Town Musicians statue draw crowds around midday.
  • Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on statues and façades.
  • Bring a charged phone, a power bank, comfortable shoes and a rain jacket, as northern German weather changes quickly.
  • The Schnoor finish is lined with cafés and small shops, and the Kunsthalle is next door if you want to see art inside.
