The route: from San Siro to Columbus’ House

The 10 stops cover about 2.3 km, roughly 30 minutes of walking. You can start anywhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Genoa with a city game
Genoa’s historic centre is one of the largest in Europe, a maze of narrow alleys called caruggi between grand palaces. The Strade Nuove and the Palazzi dei Rolli are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Lorenzo Cathedral shows off black-and-white striped marble, and tradition says Marco Polo dictated his travels while imprisoned in Palazzo San Giorgio.
A game makes you look closely at portals, coats of arms and façades you would otherwise miss, and the stories explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a slice of focaccia whenever you like.
- Start in the morning or late afternoon; the alleys stay shady, but Piazza De Ferrari and the port area are busiest around midday.
- Wear comfortable shoes: the old town has slopes and steps.
- Start the escape game in daylight; the narrow caruggi get dark early.
- Finish with focaccia or pasta with pesto near Porta Soprana, or a visit inside the Doge’s Palace.
