The route: from Tuttomondo to the Baptistery

The Pisa scavenger hunt starts at Tuttomondo, Keith Haring’s giant mural, and crosses to the small Gothic church of Santa Maria della Spina on the Arno and Palazzo Blu. Via Piazza Garibaldi and the statue of Galileo Galilei you reach Piazza dei Cavalieri and Palazzo della Carovana, then the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral and finally the Baptistery.

The 10 stops cover about 2.8 km, roughly 34 minutes of walking. Start anywhere or change the order in the app; Google Maps guides you. No entry tickets needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Pisa with a city game

Most visitors see only Piazza dei Miracoli, but Pisa is a lively university town along the Arno. Galileo was born here, Palazzo della Carovana on Piazza dei Cavalieri houses the Scuola Normale Superiore, and the riverside lungarni are lined with palaces. The walk ends at the Leaning Tower, begun in 1173, and its square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A game makes you look closely at carvings, signs and façades you would otherwise pass by, and the stories that follow explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a coffee or a snack whenever you like.

  • Go early in the morning or late afternoon: Piazza dei Miracoli is busiest from late morning, when tour buses arrive.
  • Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on the façades.
  • Pack a power bank and wear comfortable shoes; the game runs on your phone.
  • Finish on Piazza dei Miracoli and book a climb up the Leaning Tower separately, or walk back to Borgo Stretto for a coffee.
