The route: from Congress Square to the Triple Bridge

The Ljubljana scavenger hunt starts at the Ursuline Church on Congress Square and leads past the University of Ljubljana to the Town Hall and St Nicholas Cathedral. From the Vodnik Monument at the Central Market you cross the Dragon Bridge and the Butchers’ Bridge, then reach the pink Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, Prešeren Square and finally the Triple Bridge.

The 10 stops cover about 2.2 km, roughly 27 minutes of walking. You can start elsewhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Ljubljana with a city game

Ljubljana’s old town is compact, largely car-free and lined along the river Ljubljanica, with the castle on the hill above. Much of what you see was shaped by the architect Jože Plečnik, whose works in the city, including the Triple Bridge and the Central Market, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The dragons on the Dragon Bridge are the city’s symbol, and Prešeren Square honours Slovenia’s national poet.

A game makes you look closely at sculptures, façades and bridge details you would otherwise pass by, and the stories that follow explain what you have just seen. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop at a riverside café whenever you like.

  • Start in the morning or late afternoon: the riverbanks are calmer and the light on the bridges is softer.
  • Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details on the outside of the buildings.
  • Bring a charged phone, a power bank and comfortable shoes for the cobbled old town.
  • Combine the game with the Central Market or a ride up to Ljubljana Castle after you finish at the Triple Bridge.
