The route: from Fuente de las Granadas to Pilar de Carlos V

The Granada scavenger hunt starts at the Fuente de las Granadas and leads past the Basílica de las Angustias, the Plaza Nueva fountain and the City Hall to Plaza de Bib-Rambla. From Granada Cathedral and the Palacio de la Madraza you continue to Plaza Isabel la Católica, climb to the Puerta de las Granadas and finish at the Pilar de Carlos V below the Alhambra.

The 10 stops cover about 2.5 km, roughly 31 minutes of walking. You can start anywhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of buildings.

Why explore Granada with a city game

Granada was the capital of the Nasrid kingdom, the last Muslim state on the Iberian Peninsula, until the Catholic Monarchs took it in 1492. Both worlds still meet here: the 14th-century Madraza faces the Renaissance cathedral, the Royal Chapel holds the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, and the pomegranate, the city’s symbol, appears on fountains and gates.

A game makes you look closely at inscriptions and carvings you would otherwise rush past on the way to the Alhambra, and the stories explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, with no schedule and time for tapas.

  • Start in the morning or late afternoon: summer middays are hot and the streets around the cathedral get crowded.
  • Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details of façades and fountains.
  • Bring a charged phone, a power bank, water and comfortable shoes; the last stretch to the Puerta de las Granadas climbs.
  • The finish is right by the Alhambra: visit it after the game (book tickets well ahead) or end with tapas around Plaza Nueva.
