Why explore Bern with a city game

Bern’s old town sits on a loop of the river Aare and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Around 6 km of stone arcades line its streets, colourful 16th-century fountains stand in the middle of the lanes, and the Zytglogge has shown the time with its astronomical clock since 1530. Albert Einstein lived here in 1905, the year he published his theory of special relativity.

A game makes you look closely at fountain figures, clock faces and façades you would otherwise miss, and the stories explain what you see. Everyone plays on their own phone, with no schedule and time for a coffee under the arcades whenever you like.

  • Reach the Zytglogge a few minutes before the hour to watch its moving figures.
  • Start the escape game in daylight; its puzzles rely on details of fountains and façades.
  • Bring a charged phone, a power bank and comfortable shoes; the walk down to the Nydeggkirche and back up is steep.
  • Near the Nydeggkirche, cross the bridge to the Bear Park, or finish with a visit inside Bern Minster.
