The Baden-Baden City Guides answer the questions every visitor has: which bath to choose, where the town eats when it skips the grand hotels, how to fit the museums of the Lichtentaler Allee into one walk and which Black Forest lake or French city is worth a day. Each guide is a short, opinionated list that gives you the reason to go, what to order or look for and one practical tip for every place, and it opens in your browser as soon as you pay.

Three places from the guides
Gasthaus Auerhahn
Geroldsau, 15 min by bus 204 or 205
A carved-wood country inn up the Grobbach valley, kept by one family for generations. Order the Sauerbraten with homemade Spätzle or a local trout, and eat in the beer garden under the trees when the weather allows. From the food guide.
Museum Frieder Burda
Lichtentaler Allee 8B
Richard Meier’s white pavilion in the park, filled with large shows of modern and contemporary art drawn from a serious private collection. Give it about two hours. From the things to do guide.
Hornisgrindeturm
Hornisgrinde, a 45-minute walk from the Mummelsee
At 1,164 metres this is the top of the northern Black Forest. Cross the moor on a boardwalk and climb the old signal tower; on a clear day the Vosges and Strasbourg cathedral come into view. From the day trips guide.
Plan your days in Baden-Baden
On day one, start at the Trinkhalle and the Kurhaus, follow the Lichtentaler Allee past the museums to Kloster Lichtenthal and end the evening with a glass of Riesling in an old-town wine tavern. On day two, ride the funicular up the Merkur or walk to the Hohenbaden castle ruin, then spend the afternoon tasting in the Rebland villages of Neuweier and Varnhalt. Keep a rainy or slow day for the thermal baths, the Roman bath ruins under the Friedrichsbad and a train to Strasbourg or Freiburg.
