What is the Český Krumlov self-guided walking tour?
The Český Krumlov self-guided walking tour is a walk in Český Krumlov led by your own phone: the World City Trail app shows the way and tells the story of each place with audio narration. The full route runs 2 km past 10 stops, and you should reckon on around 3 hours, of which only 25 minutes are spent on foot. The town sits in a tight bend of the Vltava below one of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe, and the stories belong to the noble families who ruled it.
At the Monasteries the narration explains why the Rosenbergs founded a double convent for Minorite friars and Poor Clare nuns, a rare arrangement in Central Europe. The Castle Tower received its painted Renaissance decoration in the late 16th century, and Barber's Bridge brings the grimmest story of the walk, that of Julius d'Austria, illegitimate son of Emperor Rudolf II, who murdered a barber's daughter in 1608. At the Egon Schiele Art Centrum you hear why the painter, whose mother came from the town, left again after the townspeople disapproved of his life with Wally Neuzil. At the castle, look for the bears in the moat and hear what links them to the Orsini family.
