The Delft City Guides answer what every visitor ends up asking: where to eat well away from the pricey terraces on the Markt, how to tell real hand-painted Delft Blue from printed copies, what to do with children on a wet afternoon and how to reach the North Sea or Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring in under an hour. Each guide is a short, honest list that says why a place earns its spot, what to order or look for and one useful tip, and it opens in your browser the moment you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Spijshuis De Dis
Beestenmarkt, east of the Markt
Dutch home cooking brought up to date, from slow-braised meat to hutspot-style mash, served on Delft Blue plates on the loveliest square in town. Do not skip the bread at the start; mains run about €22 to €28. From the food guide.
Straatje van Vermeer
Vlamingstraat 40-42
In 2015 researchers used an old register of canal-dredging fees to tie Vermeer’s The Little Street to this address. The houses have gone, yet the narrow passage between them survives, and a small exhibition next door tells the story for about €9. From the things to do guide.
Mauritshuis
Plein 29, 10 min walk from Den Haag Centraal
Girl with a Pearl Earring hangs here alongside Vermeer’s View of Delft, so you see the town you are staying in through his eyes. Rembrandt and Fabritius’s Goldfinch share the same small palace; allow 90 minutes and about €20. From the beaches and day trips guide.
Plan your days in Delft
Day one: start on the Markt, climb the Nieuwe Kerk tower, walk over to the leaning Oude Kerk on the same ticket, find Vermeer’s little street and see the canals from a tour boat, then eat on the Beestenmarkt and finish with a beer beside the Oude Kerk. Day two: take the 12-minute train to The Hague for the Mauritshuis, then ride tram 1 on to the beach at Scheveningen, or head south to Rotterdam and the Kinderdijk mills instead. For a rainy or slow day, paint your own tile at Royal Delft, see the Prinsenhof where William of Orange was shot, warm up in the Hortus greenhouses and end with an Indonesian rijsttafel.
