See the guide in action

A short look at a real guide: ticking places off, filtering and opening Maps.

The Erfurt City Guides answer the questions every visitor brings: where Thuringian dumplings are done right, which bratwurst stand earns its queue, how to see the cathedral hill, the Krämerbrücke and the Old Synagogue in a sensible order and where students go out after midnight. Each guide is a short list with an opinion, giving the reason to go, what to order or look for and one practical tip per place, and it opens in your browser the moment you pay.

Three places from the guides

Pho 45 Erfurt

Marktstraße 45, between Domplatz and Fischmarkt

Erfurt has a large Vietnamese community, and this is the easiest way to taste its cooking: deep bowls of pho, bun cha with pork belly and plump summer rolls. From the food guide.

Old Synagogue

Waagegasse 8, off Michaelisstraße

Parts of the building go back to around 1100, which makes it the oldest largely intact synagogue in Central Europe, now within a UNESCO World Heritage site. The cellar keeps the Erfurt Treasure, including a gold wedding ring from the 14th century. An hour is enough. From the things to do guide.

Wartburg

Eisenach, 25 min by ICE or 45 min by regional train

The UNESCO castle where Luther translated the New Testament in 1521. The Romanesque palace is shown on guided tours only, followed by Luther’s room and the museum, and the view over the Thuringian Forest is free. From the day trips guide.

Play the game, then follow the guide

World City Trail’s Erfurt scavenger hunt, escape game and audio tour take you through the historic old town. The guides carry on where the game stops: a bratwurst with Born mustard, sunset on the Petersberg citadel, a train to Weimar or the Wartburg, or a free museum for a wet afternoon.
