The Frigiliana City Guides answer the questions every visitor to this white village ends up asking: where to eat fried aubergine with cane honey on a terrace above the sea, how to fit in the Nerja caves and the Balcón de Europa without losing a whole day, which river to wade up on a hot afternoon and which coves east of Maro justify the trip. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place is worth your time, what to order or look out for and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Ayo
Paseo Burriana, on Burriana beach, Nerja
Paella bubbles away in enormous pans over a wood fire, and you watch it cook from your table on the sand. A plate runs about €10 to €12; add fried anchovies or pil-pil prawns. Nerja has been eating here for decades. From the food guide.
Castle of Lizar (ruins)
Hill above the old village, Frigiliana
The Moorish castle once crowned this hill, and the revolt of 1569 came to its end up here. Only traces are left, but the climb rewards you with Frigiliana, Nerja and the sea in a single view. From the things to do guide.
Cala del Cañuelo
Maro-Cerro Gordo cliffs, east of Maro
A pebble cove with not a single building in sight, tucked inside a protected stretch of cliffs. The water is very clear and the rocks are good for snorkelling; it feels far wilder than any beach in Nerja. From the day trips guide.
Plan your days in Frigiliana
Day one: climb through the old village before the coach groups arrive around 11:00, up to the church of Saint Anthony and the Fuente Vieja, pick up a bottle of cane honey at Miel de la Torre and settle in for a long terrace lunch. In the evening, take the bus down to Nerja and work your way through a few tapas bars. Day two: start on the Balcón de Europa, then go east to Playa de Maro and paddle out to the waterfall, or spend the day wading up the Río Chillar. For a rainy or slow day, see the Nerja caves and the Museum of Nerja on the same ticket and finish with a booked dinner in Nerja’s old town.
