The Görlitz City Guides answer what visitors want to know: where to taste Silesian cooking in a Renaissance house, which towers give the best view over the old town, what to do on a Monday when the museums are shut and how to spend an evening on both banks of the Neisse. Each guide is a short, opinionated list with the reason to go and a practical tip for every place, and it opens in your browser the moment you pay.

Three places from the guides
Restaurant Vierradenmühle

An old water mill right on the river, with the Peterskirche above and Poland on the opposite bank. These days the kitchen leans Polish: pierogi and generous potato pancakes. From the food guide.
Holy Trinity Church
Klosterplatz 21, by Obermarkt
A Franciscan church founded in 1234, with painted vaults full of angel musicians, a sandstone Lamentation group and the gilded altar known as the Golden Madonna. Free to enter. From the things to do guide.
Zittauer Schmalspurbahn
Bahnhofstraße 41, Zittau station
Steam engines have hauled this narrow-gauge line since 1890, puffing for about 45 minutes up to the spa villages of Oybin and Jonsdorf. Trains run every day. From the day trips guide.
Plan your Görlitz days
Day one: the Untermarkt, the Peterskirche and a tower climb in the morning, a Silesian lunch in the old town, then the footbridge into Zgorzelec and a beer garden above the Neisse at dusk. Day two: take the regional train to Zittau and ride the steam railway up into the mountains, or spend a summer day at the Berzdorfer See. Keep a rainy or slow day for the Senckenberg and Silesian museums, the Holy Sepulchre, coffee and cake, and the art-house cinema in the evening. Most museums close on Monday.
