The Hydra City Guides answer what every visitor to this car-free island ends up asking: which tavernas up the lanes beat the ones where the ferries tie up, where to swim off the rocks for free, how early to start the climb to the monasteries and when to claim a table on the western rocks for sunset. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place is worth the walk, what to order or look at and one useful tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Taverna Christina
Kamini, a 20-minute walk west of the harbour
A family place above the little fishing harbour of Kamini, where octopus and calamari come off the charcoal grill and a 200 ml carafe of house wine costs about €4. Reason enough to walk out of town at lunchtime. From the food guide.
Prophet Elias Monastery
Above Hydra town, 1 to 1.5 hours uphill on foot
A broad stepped path climbs about 500 metres from the port to this working monastery, and the view opens up with every bend. From the courtyard you look down on the town and over to the Peloponnese, and the monks often bring out cold water. Entry is free. From the things to do guide.
Hydronetta
Coastal path west of the port, a 5-minute walk
Terraces cut into the rocks under the old cannons, with ladders down into clear water. Swim in the afternoon, watch the sun sink behind the Peloponnese and simply stay on into the night; cocktails run around €12. From the nightlife guide.
Plan your days in Hydra
Day one: walk the horseshoe harbour while it is quiet, step into the cathedral courtyard behind the clock tower, climb to Prophet Elias Monastery before the heat, then swim off the rocks at Avlaki and stay for a sunset drink at Hydronetta. Day two: follow the coast path to Kamini for grilled octopus at Taverna Christina, carry on to Vlychos or take the beach boat to Bisti for pine shade, and finish with dinner up the lanes in town. For a rainy or slow day, see the Historical Archive and the Kountouriotis mansion, whose ticket also opens the Tetsis studio, then linger over lunch at Paradosiakó and croissants and coffee in the lanes behind the port.
