The Münster City Guides answer what visitors really want to know: which old taverns still serve proper Westphalian food, when to catch the cathedral clock in action, where students drink in the Kuhviertel and which moated castles are an easy bike ride away. Each guide is a short list with an opinion: for every place you get the reason to go, what to order or look out for and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you pay.

Three places from the guides
Altes Gasthaus Drübbelken
Buddenstraße, Kuhviertel
A lopsided 17th-century house with low beams and a raised booth nicknamed the chicken coop, serving hearty plates and pike-perch in generous portions. The staff happily help in English. From the food guide.
Freilichtmuseum Mühlenhof
Theo-Breider-Weg, Aasee west bank
Around 30 old Münsterland farm buildings, a windmill, a bakehouse and farm animals by the lake. On baking days the bread comes straight out of the wood oven. From the things to do guide.
Vischering Castle
Lüdinghausen, about 45 minutes by bus
The picture-book Münsterland moated castle, with water all around, a drawbridge and a museum about life in a castle. In the grounds an old bakehouse still fires a 200-year-old wood oven. From the day trips guide.
Plan your days in Münster
Day one: stroll the arcades of the Prinzipalmarkt, be in the cathedral at noon for the clock, have lunch at the market if it is Wednesday or Saturday, then rent a bike for the Promenade and end the evening in the Kuhviertel pubs. Day two: cycle out to a moated castle such as Burg Hülshoff or take the bus to Lüdinghausen, then come back for sunset on the Aasee steps and dinner by the harbour. On a slow or rainy day, combine the free university museums with a long coffee and cake, or spend it at the zoo and the natural history museum by the lake.
