The Plitvice Lakes City Guides deal with the questions every visit here raises: which entrance and which time slot keep you ahead of the coach groups, where to eat Lika lamb and river trout instead of a canteen lunch, where children can swim when the park lakes are off limits, and how to fit in the Barać Caves, Rastoke or a Bosnian waterfall. Each guide is a short, honest list that says why a place earns its spot, what to order or look at and one practical tip, and it opens in your browser the moment you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Degenija Restaurant
Selište Drežničko, 10 min north of Entrance 1
A large house of stone and timber on the D1 that rarely gets it wrong: Lika lamb and veal, pizza that holds its own and more for vegetarians than anywhere nearby. Plates are enormous, so ask for a half portion. From the food guide.
Supljara Cave
Lower Lakes, Rastovača side
Most people stride past the opening on the lakeshore. Step in, climb through the rock for ten minutes or so and you come out on the canyon rim, looking straight down on Kaluđerovac lake. It costs nothing extra. From the things to do guide.
Waterfall Štrbački buk
Una National Park, Bosnia, about 1 hour 20 min drive
The Una drops 24 metres here in a staircase of white water, reached on wooden walkways after a short stroll through the forest. A fraction of the Plitvice crowds, and entry is about €10. From the rivers and day trips guide.
Plan your days at Plitvice Lakes
Day one: take the earliest slot at Entrance 1, walk the Lower Lakes to the Great Waterfall, climb up through Supljara Cave for the view, and drive to Selište Drežničko for a dinner of Lika lamb, with peka ordered in advance. Day two: start at Entrance 2, cross Lake Kozjak by electric boat, walk the Upper Lakes past Galovački Buk and the Prštavac falls, then cool off in the river by the Špoljarić Watermill in Korana village. For a rainy or slow day, tour the Barać Caves, wander the Drežnik fortress above the Korana canyon, or drive to Rastoke for its water mills and finish with cake at the Kozjak café.
