What is the Prague scavenger hunt?
The Prague scavenger hunt is a self-guided city game you play on your phone: you walk from landmark to landmark, solve a riddle at each one by looking closely at what is in front of you, and unlock the stories and legends behind it. It takes about 2 hours, with around 53 minutes of actual walking over 4.6 km with 10 stops, and you start whenever you like.
Highlights include the Municipal House, the Týn Church and the Astronomical Clock on Old Town Square, the Spanish Synagogue, Charles Bridge and St Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle. The route links the Old Town with Malá Strana across the Vltava, and the climb to the castle gives you views over the rooftops of the city.

How the hunt plays from the New Town up to the castle
One riddle, one landmark
Every one of the 10 stops holds a riddle whose answer is visible from where you stand: a bell, a tower, a figure in a window, a date carved into a plinth. No background in Czech history is expected of anybody.
Legends behind the answer
Once solved, the stop tells its stories: the clockmaker Hanuš, blinded according to legend so that he could never build a second astronomical clock, the gilded Hussite chalice melted down in 1626 for a halo on the Týn Church, Tycho Brahe lying in the same church. A voice in the app can take over the reading at any stop.
Old Town, river, castle hill
Google Maps carries you over 4.6 km with 53 minutes of walking, from Henry's Tower through the Old Town, across Charles Bridge into Malá Strana and up to Prague Castle. Only that last stretch climbs, and the view back over the rooftops pays for it.
No clock on the game
The hunt pauses as long as you want it to. Stop for a beer on the way up, come back to the last stops in the evening or the next morning, and let the app put the stops in the order your day needs.

Who the Prague hunt is made for
A first visit to Prague
The Old Town Square, the Jewish Town, Charles Bridge and the castle arrive in a sensible order instead of as a scramble between crowds. In 2 hours you have the shape of the city and know which bridge tower belongs to which century.
A team with children in it
The clock puts on its procession of Apostles every hour, Charles Bridge carries thirty statues to count, and the first stone is said to have been laid at 5:31 on 9 July 1357 because the figures read the same backwards. An adult has to be in the team.
Colleagues on a day out
Five players to a team, each with the riddle on their own phone, lets a department set off in waves and compare answers in front of St Vitus Cathedral. Beyond the tickets nothing needs reserving, since all ten riddles stand in open streets and squares.
Good to know
- Bring a charged smartphone with mobile data; a power bank helps.
- No entry tickets needed: everything happens outside the buildings. Going inside is optional and paid separately.
- Family friendly; children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Not suitable for wheelchair users and difficult with strollers.
- Teams of up to 5 work best; bigger groups split into several teams, one ticket per player.
- Every purchase helps support stray cats and dogs in Greece.
The route: Henry's Tower, Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle
10 stops · about 53 min walking · start: Henry's Tower (Jindřišská věž) · finish: St Vitus Cathedral
The hunt starts at Henry's Tower in the New Town and heads past the Municipal House into the Old Town, to the Týn Church, the Spanish Synagogue, St Nicholas Church and the Astronomical Clock. At the Charles IV Monument you cross Charles Bridge into Malá Strana, pass the Holy Trinity Column and climb up to Prague Castle to finish at St Vitus Cathedral. All ten riddles are read off the outside of these buildings, so the hunt costs nothing in entry tickets, and the app will set a different first stop and a different order for anyone sleeping in Malá Strana rather than the New Town.

1Henry's Tower (Jindřišská věž)Start
Henry's Tower is the free-standing belfry of the Church of St Henry and St Kunhuta in Prague's New Town, about 66 metres tall. The stone tower was built in the late 16th century and got its neo-Gothic look in a rebuilding of 1876–1880, and its oldest surviving bell, Maria, was cast in 1518.

2Municipal House (Obecní dům)
The Municipal House was built from 1905 and opened in 1912 to designs by Osvald Polívka and Antonín Balšánek, on the site of a medieval royal palace next to the Powder Gate. Above the entrance is Karel Špillar's mosaic Homage to Prague, and in 1918 the building saw the declaration of Czechoslovak independence.
3Church of Our Lady before Týn
The Gothic Týn Church rises behind the houses of Old Town Square, with two towers about 80 metres high; the south tower was finished in 1511. The astronomer Tycho Brahe is buried inside, and the golden Hussite chalice that once crowned the gable was melted down in 1626 for the halo of a statue of the Virgin Mary.
4Spanish Synagogue
The Spanish Synagogue was completed in 1868 in the Moorish Revival style, on the site of what was probably the oldest synagogue in Prague's Jewish Town. Today it is part of the Jewish Museum in Prague, and beside it stands Jaroslav Róna's modern statue of Franz Kafka.
5St Nicholas Church (Old Town)
This Baroque church on Old Town Square was designed by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer for the Benedictines and built in 1732–1737. Its white façade with statues by Antonín Braun only became visible from the square after a house in front of it was demolished in 1902, and today it belongs to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church.
6Astronomical Clock
The astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall dates from 1410 and was made by the clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and the astronomer Jan Šindel. Every hour figures of the Apostles appear in the windows above the dials, and according to legend the clockmaker Hanuš was blinded so that he could never build another one.
7Charles IV Monument
This statue of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, stands on Křižovnické náměstí at the Old Town end of Charles Bridge. The Dresden sculptor Ernst Julius Hähnel made it, and it was unveiled in 1848 for the 500th anniversary of Charles University, which Charles founded in 1348.

8Charles Bridge
Charles IV had the stone bridge begun in 1357 to designs by Peter Parler, and according to tradition the first stone was laid at 5:31 on 9 July 1357, so that the date and time read the same backwards. The bridge is about 516 metres long and lined with 30 statues and sculpture groups, among them Saint John of Nepomuk.
9Holy Trinity Column
This Baroque plague column on Malá Strana Square was completed in 1715 to mark the end of the plague epidemic that struck Prague in 1713. It was designed by the architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi, with sculptures by Jan Oldřich Mayer and Ferdinand Geiger.

10St Vitus CathedralFinish
Work on the Gothic cathedral inside Prague Castle began in 1344 under Matthias of Arras, Peter Parler took over after his death, and the building was only completed in 1929. It holds the relics of Saint Wenceslas and the tombs of many Bohemian kings, and the Art Nouveau painter Alfons Mucha designed one of its stained-glass windows.

Fun to do and nice tour of Prague. Some riddles were a bit difficult without the hint, but fun. I must say that the support/help works great. The app would not run at the beginnig, so I called for help. They immediately sent a new login code and it was a piece of cake afterwards.

Really fun activity to get to know Salzburg. Salzburg is much bigger than I realised and this is a great way to explore. We did it over two days and took our time pausing it to wonder off or stop for lunch. We ended at the foot of the castle and then got the funicular up to the top. The puzzles got harder as they went along but were a lot of fun.

The guide is a great way to acquaint yourself with the city. Some of the questions are difficult to understand, and it’s not the most logical order. But it is fun and worth doing.
