The Rovinj City Guides answer the questions every trip here raises: where to eat good fish without paying harbour-front prices, which pine-shaded coves are worth the walk past the hotel sunbeds, how to reach the islands, the Lim fjord and the hill towns of Istria, and where to sit on the rocks with a drink while the sun goes down over the sea. Each guide is a short, honest list that tells you why a place deserves your time, what to order or see and one useful tip, and it opens in your browser as soon as you have paid.

Three places from the guides
Spacio Matika
Ulica Vladimira Švalbe, old town
On set evenings a batana boat rows you across the harbour while local men sing bitinada, and dinner follows in a former wine cellar: grilled fish, sardines, polenta and house wine. No evening in town feels more local. From the food guide.
Dvigrad ruins
Near Kanfanar, 25 min by car
A walled medieval town left empty in the 17th century after plague and war. You roam freely among roofless houses, towers and the shell of St Sophia’s church, with a green valley all around and nothing to pay. From the things to do guide.
Cocktail Bar Limbo
Casale 22b, old town steps
Candlelit tables set on the stone steps of an old town lane, creative cocktails at honest prices and local wine and beer as well. It is the snuggest seat in Rovinj and a quiet escape from the busy waterfront. From the nightlife guide.
Plan your days in Rovinj
Day one: climb to St Euphemia before 10:00 for the bell tower view, wander the lanes and the Batana Eco-Museum, then swim off the Balota rocks under the church and stay for a sunset drink on Ulica Svetog Križa. Day two: walk or cycle south through the Golden Cape forest to Lone Bay and Cuvi, take the short boat to St Catherine’s island and eat fish one lane back from the harbour. For a rainy or slow day, drive inland to the Dvigrad ruins and the Lim fjord viewpoint, add the Baredine cave if it pours, and finish with a glass of Malvazija in a wine bar.
