How to Organize Your Teams: Scavenger Hunts & City Escape Games

Setting up your group for a World City Trail adventure is easy! Whether you are playing a City Escape Game or a landmark-hunting Scavenger Hunt, choosing the right team mode is the secret to a smooth experience.

Essential Connection Rules

Before you start, ensure every participant knows these two technical requirements:

  • Mobile Data Only: Do not use city Wi-Fi (it is unstable). Use your 4G/5G mobile data.
  • Disable VPN: The app will not function if a VPN is active. Please turn it off before starting.

Choose Your Adventure

1 Person: The Solo Hero

  • The Plan: You are on your own!
  • The Setup: Select Create, choose your language, and start.
  • Control: You have full power over all puzzles and navigation..

2 – 10 Persons: The Squad

The booking reference you receive after purchase is the same for the entire group. The team names identify the different teams.

You have three ways to play:

  • Option A: One Big Team (10 people together, not recommended)
    • Setup: 1 Captain selects Create. The other 9 people select Join.
    • How it works: You all walk together. Only the Captain taps the buttons to answer or move to the next spot. Everyone else uses the Refresh button at the top right to see the progress or skip with the bottom right button. Members can see the puzzles and read or listen to info and stories.
    • Result: One final score for the whole group.
  • Option B: Small Group Battle (e.g., Two teams of 5, or any other combination)
    • Setup: 2 Captains select Create (each with a different Team Name). 4 people Join Team A; 4 people Join Team B.
    • How it works: Each team can choose a different language and route. Within each team, only the Captain taps the buttons.
    • Result: Two different scores at the end. Great for a mini-competition!
  • Option C: The Individual Race (10 teams of 1) (recommended for maximum freedom)
    • Setup: Everyone selects Create and makes their own Team Name.
    • How it works: Everyone has total freedom! Go wherever you want, in whatever language you want.
    • Result: 10 individual scores.

11+ Persons: The Grand Event

  • Option A: The Giant Parade
    • Setup: 1 Captain creates the team, and everyone else selects Join.(not recommended)
    • The Rule: Just like the small team, only the Captain clicks the buttons. Everyone else uses the Refresh button to follow along or skip with the bottom right button.
  • Option B: The Tournament (Recommended)
    • Setup: Split into smaller squads (like 5 people per squad). Each squad has its own Captain who selects Create.
    • Result: Compare the scores of each squad to crown the “City Champion”.
  • Option C: The Individual Challenge (Everyone for themselves, recommended for maximum freedom)
    • Setup: Every single person selects Create and plays on their own phone.
    • How it works: Everyone makes their own choices, moves at their own pace, and sees their own points at the end.
    • The “Paper Team” Trick: If you want to play in teams but let everyone have control, you can group people on a piece of paper (e.g., “Team Blue” is Sarah, Tom, and Anna). At the end, simply add up their individual scores and divide by the number of people to get the Team Average.

⚠️ The “Golden Rule” for Teams

If you are playing in a team where people have Joined a Captain:

Only the Captain should perform actions (picking the next stop, entering a code, or using a hint). If a “member” tries to click a button, it might confuse the app and skip a location!

Members: Just enjoy the puzzles, read or listen to the info and stories and use the Refresh button at the top right to stay in sync with your Captain and the skip button at the bottom right to follow your captain.

Summary Checklist

  • Everyone is on mobile data (No Wi-Fi/VPN).
  • You have decided who your captains are.
  • Everyone knows the booking reference.
  • Members know to only use the refresh button and the skip button.
