Liverpool on a cruise stop: a self-guided city game from the ship

Yes, if you head into town soon after docking. Ships berth alongside at the Liverpool Cruise Terminal on Princes Parade, at the Pier Head next to the Three Graces. Our scavenger hunt starts at the World Museum on William Brown Street, opposite Lime Street station: about 20-25 minutes' walk inland or 5-10 minutes by taxi. From the Pier Head cruise terminal to the World Museum

  1. Walk off the ship onto the Pier Head promenade: Liverpool has no tenders, and you do not need a shuttle.

  3. Taxis serve the terminal; the ride to Lime Street and William Brown Street takes about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Buses leave from the Pier Head and from Liverpool ONE bus station (about 12-15 minutes' walk from the ship), but walking to the start is usually just as quick.

Tips for Liverpool when time is short

  • Ships berth alongside at the Pier Head, so you step straight onto the waterfront with no tender queues to plan for.
  • The finish at Liverpool Cathedral is the furthest point from the ship, about 30 minutes on foot; take a taxi back if time gets tight.
  • Halfway through, the route comes back to the waterfront near your ship. If you are running late, you can stop there and finish the rest another day, because the ticket has no time limit.
  • You can change the order of the stops in the app, so you could begin with the waterfront stops right by the ship, such as the Three Graces and the Museum of Liverpool, and head inland afterwards.
  • The waterfront is flat and easy; bring a light waterproof, as the weather changes quickly.
  • If a second ship is in port, allow extra time for the security queue when you re-board.

Why a self-guided game works on a port day

  • You start when you step off the ship, not at a fixed tour time, and nobody waits for a group.
  • Everyone in your party can follow on their own phone with one booking reference.
  • You can stop for lunch or a swim and carry on later, and end the game whenever you need to head back.
  • Google Maps guides you from stop to stop, and the game needs no entry tickets.

Liverpool cruise stop: questions

Do I need a shuttle in Liverpool?

No. The terminal is in the city centre and no shuttle is needed; taxis are there for longer hops.

How long does the Liverpool scavenger hunt take on a port day?
