The route: from the Croatian National Theatre to the Prokurative
The Split scavenger hunt starts at the Croatian National Theatre and leads to Meštrović’s statue of Grgur Ninski and through the Golden Gate into Diocletian’s Palace. Around the Peristyle you discover the Cathedral of St Domnius, the palace itself and the Temple of Jupiter, then continue to People’s Square, the Riva waterfront and finally the arcaded Prokurative.
The 10 stops cover about 1.5 km, roughly 20 minutes of walking. Start anywhere or change the order in the app; Google Maps guides you. No entry tickets needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Split with a city game
Split grew inside the walls of the palace the Roman emperor Diocletian built around 300 AD, and people still live, shop and drink coffee among its columns. His mausoleum became the Cathedral of St Domnius, the Temple of Jupiter turned into a baptistery, and the palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has even served as a filming location for Game of Thrones. Just outside, the palm-lined Riva faces the harbour.
Wandering with a map, you see the famous sights; with a riddle to solve, you start noticing the details around them: dates over doorways, statues, inscriptions. Each answer unlocks the story behind the place, the whole group joins in on their own phones, and you set the pace.
- In summer start early in the morning or after 5 pm: the narrow palace lanes get very busy and hot once cruise passengers arrive.
- Play the escape game during the day: you need daylight to spot the clues on the buildings.
- Bring a charged phone with mobile data, a power bank and comfortable shoes.
- Rub the toe of Grgur Ninski’s statue for luck on the way, and finish with a coffee or a seafood dinner along the Riva.
