The route: from Alexanderplatz to the Reichstag

The Berlin scavenger hunt starts at Alexanderplatz, below the TV Tower, and continues to St Mary’s Church and the Neptune Fountain. You cross the Schlossbrücke to Berlin Cathedral and the Altes Museum on Museum Island, continue to the Gendarmenmarkt and the Goethe Monument in the Tiergarten, then pass the Brandenburg Gate and finish at the Reichstag Building.

The 10 stops cover about 5.1 km, roughly 65 minutes of walking. You can start anywhere or change the order in the app, with Google Maps guiding you. No entry tickets are needed: every riddle uses the outside of the buildings.

Why explore Berlin with a city game

Central Berlin tells the story of Prussia, two world wars, division and reunification within a few kilometres. Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site, Karl Friedrich Schinkel designed both the Altes Museum and the Schlossbrücke, the Brandenburg Gate dates from 1791, and Norman Foster’s glass dome crowns the Reichstag, completed in the 1890s.

A game makes you look closely at statues, inscriptions and façades you would otherwise walk past, and the stories that follow explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and you can stop for a currywurst whenever you like.

  • Start in the morning: Museum Island and the Brandenburg Gate are calmer before the tour groups arrive.
  • Start the escape game in daylight, especially in winter, when it gets dark early in Berlin.
  • Bring a charged phone, a power bank and comfortable shoes; the route covers about 5 km, so plan a coffee break.
  • Finish with the Reichstag dome, which needs free advance registration, or a museum on Museum Island, ticketed separately.
