The route: from the Parnell Monument to the Whiskey Museum

The Dublin scavenger hunt starts at the Parnell Monument on O’Connell Street and heads south past the Spire to O’Connell Bridge. Why explore Dublin with a city game

Dublin is a city of short distances. The Liffey divides it into north and south, and on foot you move from broad O’Connell Street to Christ Church Cathedral, founded around 1030 under the city’s Norse kings, and to St Patrick’s Cathedral, where Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver’s Travels, was dean. Georgian streets and St Stephen’s Green are only a few minutes further on.

A game makes you look closely at statues, inscriptions and façades you would otherwise miss, and the stories explain what you just saw. Everyone plays on their own phone, there is no schedule, and a pub or café is never far when a shower passes.

  • Start in the morning or late afternoon: Grafton Street and St Stephen’s Green are busiest around midday and on Saturdays.
  • Pack a light rain jacket; Dublin weather changes fast, and you can pause the game for a coffee.
  • Start the escape game in daylight, especially in winter when Dublin’s days are short.
  • Finish with a tour of the Whiskey Museum, a visit inside the National Museum or a rest on St Stephen’s Green.
